to the Old-School Fans

March 9, 2009 - The WWE has been around for a long time. Although it has not always been known by this name, the same entertainment powerhouse between the current SmackDown and Raw franchises has been going strong since the 1950s. But, it really reached the apex of its popularity with the implementation of the WrestleMania annual event, which had its first run in 1985. Since then, historic matches have taken place, including the renowned match between “Hulk” Hogan and Andre the Giant. Since then, WrestleMania has been a staple of pop culture and has had many memorable moments.
WWE Legends of WrestleMania is a title that allows you to experience these historic matches in a whole new way, and we were able to get some hands-on time with it recently before its release later this month. The game has content from the first 15 WrestleMania events, and it gives you the opportunity to 'Relive, Rematch, or Redefine' the main events from WrestleMania of the past in its main WrestleMania Tour gameplay mode. The Relive functionality allows you to play as the winner of the match and relive the best moments. You are able to win in-game awards for recreating these matches as faithfully as possible. The Rematch ability takes the opposite approach and has you playing as the losing party in an attempt to change history. The Redefine function is probably the most interesting of the three, allowing you to change the rules of the specific match to create your own version of the event.
To differentiate itself from the SmackDown series, Legends of WrestleMania focuses more on arcade-style gameplay (similar to WWF WrestleFest) with only the D-pad (or left analog stick) and the four face buttons needed on the gamepad. During play, the player's HUD features a health bar and a number between one and three. After successful chains of attacks, the number increases with more devastating moves now available.
In addition to the main WrestleMania mode, there is also a Legend Killer mode, which allows you to take a created character and use them against WWE Legends like “Hulk” Hogan and The Undertaker. Once you are able to beat all of the WWE Legends with your character, the game will then immortalize you as a WWE Legend. Although this mode does feel a little extraneous to the main mode, it is great if you want to have a more personal experience with the game.

But, if you just have to do things your own way, there is also a fairly deep free-play mode, which allows you to use your favorite WWE wrestler in an exhibition-style match with up to three other people. WWE Legends of WrestleMania does not have the 40+ match types from last year's SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, but instead goes for a very simplistic approach and includes standard two-man, tag team, and Royal Rumble matches. There is no handicap ability, and, unlike SvR, you cannot use items, weapons, or other environmental elements during the match.
One very interesting facet of this title is the control scheme. If you are familiar with the SmackDown vs. Raw series, you may think you know what to expect going into this title. However, Legends of WrestleMania features a much simpler pick-up-and-play control scheme that is very casual-friendly. The control scheme uses just the face buttons, with buttons tied to very general attack, block, and grapple functions. Although a lot of the control depth is lost here, and longtime fans may feel like the control makes the game feel a little bit on the easy side, the casual-centric controls do a good job of letting the user really experience the different matches, which is certainly great for those who pick this title up for sheer nostalgic value.
In addition to the toned-down control system, there is also a new manager system, which makes the gameplay experience feel even more streamlined. This option essentially allows you to pick one of the WWE's most infamous managers, like Bret Hart or Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan to support your wrestler during their match. This manager will intervene on your behalf when the match starts getting intense. You do not have to press any buttons to engage a manager intervention; they will temporarily disable your foes completely on their own. This is a great way to keep casual gamers from getting overwhelmed by tough opponents, and it gives them a clear opportunity to fight back if they are down in a fight.
As far as the roster is concerned, WWE Legends of WrestleMania has plenty of superstars to keep you playing. Old-school standbys like Andre the Giant, The Animal, Sgt. Slaughter, and Iron Sheik. In addition to these classic wrestlers, there is some new blood here, and you can play with contemporary legends like The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austen, and The Rock. The roster is definitely impressive, and its variety should please both longtime and current fans.
Wwe Legends Of Wrestlemania Gameplay 2017
Even though this title is definitely intended for the vintage wrestling fan, if you are a diehard SvR fan, then there are quite a few extras in this game specifically for you. The coolest extra is, if you have a SmackDown vs. Raw save file, you can import all your unlocked superstars into Legends of WrestleMania, which puts your roster at almost 100 individual wrestlers. You can also import any characters you have created in SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, which you can then use in the Legend Killer mode detailed above.
As far as graphics are concerned, the game has a similar look to SmackDown vs. Raw, with realistic and detailed character models and backgrounds. One thing that fans will appreciate is the faithfully recreated arenas and entrances from the original WrestleMania matches. The game also features original costumes from the different wrestlers, and it does a good job of preserving each Legend's most memorable 'look.' Although some character proportions have been altered slightly - Andre the Giant is a little on the short side and features a lot more muscle definition than you may remember - these changes are mostly innocuous and serve to add consistency to the game's look more than anything else.
Although Legends of WrestleMania is definitely a departure from the tried-and-true SmackDown vs. Lenovo sccm driver packages. Raw formula, it is a game intended for a different audience. The simple pick-up-and-play control scheme will certainly appeal to wrestling fans of all ages, and it makes this title accessible to just about any WWE fan. With a plethora of modes, characters, and extras, this title is shaping up to be on the 'must-play' list for any WWE fan. Look for its release later this month.

WWE Legends of WrestleMania is a video game featuring legends of the professional wrestlingpromotion, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), who have appeared at WrestleMania in the 1980s and 1990s; during that time, WWE was known as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). The game was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.[2] It was released in March 2009 to coincide with WrestleMania XXV.[3][4] The game was developed by Yuke's and published by THQ, the same developer and publisher for the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw video game series.[3][4] The WWE logo featured in the game was a slight modification of the pre-1990 WWF logo. Unlike all other WWE Smackdown vs Raw games released, this game was not ported over to the Playstation 2 or Wii.

Gameplay[edit]
Match gameplay[edit]
A recreation of the main event at WrestleMania 3 featuring Andre (left) and Hogan (right).
The game features a new grapple-based combo fighting system.[2][5] To differentiate itself from the SmackDown series, Legends of WrestleMania focuses more on arcade-style gameplay (similar to WWF WrestleFest) with only the D-pad (or left analog stick) and the four face buttons needed on the gamepad. During play, the player's HUD features a health bar and a number between one and three. After successful chains of attacks, the number increases with more devastating moves now available. After completing the third level of moves, the wrestler's finishing move can then be performed. Continuous chains of moves are performed by pressing a button allocated by the screen before the player's opponent can. If the opponent beats the player at this, then the move is blocked and the chain is broken.[6] Each wrestler has five taunts, which will either increase his health meter or his speed, among others. In addition, when a wrestler is being pinned, a meter displays that determines how likely it is for the opponent to kick out of the pin. Unlike the WWE SmackDown games, a submission meter is the only indication to specific damaged body parts, as opposed to a body model located in the HUD.[7]
Managers play a significant part of the game, and interfere on behalf of their clients.[6] Features similar to the SmackDown series such as create-a-legend mode and online gameplay are also featured in the game.[2] There are many new moves created for this game, along with most moves that appeared in Smackdown vs. Raw 2009. Most moves were used for SmackDown vs. Raw 2010. A new mode featured is the WrestleMania Tour where classic WrestleMania matches can be recreated with classic WWE footage included to introduce the bout.[2] The game also includes a feature to import characters from WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 (except for; Big Daddy V, Chuck Palumbo, Elijah Burke, Lance Cade, Paul London, and Trevor Murdoch).[8]

Game modes[edit]
The game features a WrestleMania Tour mode consisting of three options: Relive, Rewrite, and Redefine. In Relive, the player can play as a legend that won a match over a certain wrestler. Rewrite allows the player to play as the loser of a certain historic match in order to 'rewrite' history. The player in this mode can watch a recap of the history of certain wrestlers, a recap of their feud, and a recap of their match at WrestleMania. In this mode, the player must complete certain objectives, besides winning the match. In Redefine, the player chooses any wrestler to play and the ability to change the match type. A Movie Theater is available to watch all unlocked match clips. The match types are Single, Tag Team, Triple Threat, Steel Cage, Ladder, Submission, Iron Man, Handicap, Hell in a Cell, and Royal Rumble.[9]Another game mode in WWE Legends of WrestleMania is the Legend Killer mode. The mode features six tiers, with four tiers having ten legends waiting to challenge the player, and the two others will have all the Legends from the game and a tier list for the Superstars from WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 respectively. This mode is used to enhance the player's Create-a-Legend attributes.[10] Also featured is a Hall of Fame Mode, allowing players to view what they have unlocked.
Roster[edit]
The game featured 38 playable characters by default, and 4 non-playable managers. Players could extend the roster by choosing the 'Import WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009' option on the main menu. This would import most of the male characters from SvR09 into the game. Unlockable characters would only be available if they had been previously unlocked in SvR09, however, female and downloadable content characters could not be imported. Each imported character had a unique moves set designed specifically for the WWE Legends of WrestleMania game. These moves sets became available automatically in 'Create-A-Moves-Set' mode. This function required the SvR09 game to be loaded onto the console's internal memory. However, once imported, the characters remained permanently unlocked in WWE Legends of WrestleMania. Players did not need to retain the SvR09 game files on the internal memory in order to retain the SvR09 characters. Big Daddy V, Chuck PalumboElijah Burke, Hornswoggle, Lance Cade, Masked Man, Paul London, Tony and Trevor Murdoch could not be imported.
Players could also create their own custom characters in 'Create-A-WWE-Legend' mode. Alternatively, they could also import user-created characters from SvR09 save files. If the 'Import WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009' function had been used, it made most entrance animations, videos and theme music from SvR09 available in the 'Create-An-Entrance' modes.

Some critics praised the game's focus on nostalgia from the earlier days of the event.[13] Other reviewers, such as GameSpot and IGN, criticized the game for being repetitive, lacking in replay value, being overly simplistic, and how wrestler models were beefed up to look too 'action figure' like.[15][20]
